How exactly do "live dealer" casinos work?

Let's say that you are playing blackjack and sit down at a "live dealer" table.

A real live human dealer will appear on your screen, and you will be able to communicate with them in real time. The dealer will be directly across from a camera, which will beam all of their moves out to the world.





The cards in the deck all contain microchips that connect with a sophisicated computer program. As the dealer deals the cards, the microchips will interface with the software, which will then translate this action onto your screen.

Prior to the hand taking place, the dealer will wait for you to place your virtual bet. Just like at a brick-and-mortar casino, there can be multiple people sitting at the table.

After the bets are placed, the dealer will begin dealing. As they take each card out of the deck, they will scan the card, much like people scan groceries at the supermarket. You can see the cards as they are being dealt, just like at a traditional casino, but scanning the cards is important as it will update the software and update your screen. All of the pertinent details, such as your current count in the hand, will be shown on the screen.

Just like at a regular casino, the dealer will wait patiently as each player acts and hits/stands/doubles down, etc. After all of the players have acted, the dealer will act and then the hand will reach its conclusion. Unlike in a traditional casino, the bets are returned/taken immediately and the action will move to the next hand.

Players are able to communicate with dealers in real time via a chat interface, plus they can also elect to tip the dealer, just like at a regular casino.
